How to access Starlink dish interface without wifi router
Info
This document will provide a walkthrough on connecting to the Starlink interface without the requirement of connecting the Starlink Wi-Fi router and opening the Starlink app.
This is useful for troubleshooting / diagnosing issues with the dish via a routed network where Starlink is providing a WAN connection.
- Connect to the local network via ethernet
- Ensure you are connected via a router, not connected directly to the Starlink Power Injector's Ethernet Handoff as the Power Injector will hand off a Class B IP Address and will not work on a laptop or other mobile device.
- Ensure your ethernet adapter settings are set to DHCP
- Right click network icon on the windows taskbar
- Select: "Open Network & Internet Settings"
- This will open the settings application, in the settings application, select "Change adapter options"
- This will open a control panel window, in this window, find your network adapter that is in use, this will likely be Ethernet, if not, find the ethernet adapter that does not have a red cross on it.
- right click the active ethernet adapter and select "Properties"
- This will open an ethernet properties window, in this window you will see "This connection uses the following items:" below this is a scrollable list, in this list locate and double click "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)"
- This will open another menu, here you will see the options "Obtain an IP address automatically" and "Obtain DNS server address automatically", ensure both of these options are selected and exit these settings by clicking "OK" on all menus and closing out of Control Panel and Settings
- Ensure you have gotten a DHCP lease from the network you are connected
- Look at the network icon in your taskbar, if you see a globe icon you have not received a DHCP lease, please check that you are properly connected to the network and that the router is powered on and connected, also ensure you are not connected directly to the Starlink ethernet handoff.
- Open Command Prompt by pressing CMD + R, type "cmd.exe" and press enter.
- in the command prompt that has just been opened, type "ipconfig" and press enter, this will output all of your IP information for all of your network adapters, find your active adapter that you checked the settings of in step 1 and note the the "IPv4 Address" and "Default Gateway" listed below it.
- Access the Starlink dish web interface
- Open your preferred web-browser (Chrome, Edge, Firefox, etc)
- In the search bar, type dishy.starlink.com, this is the URL to access the Starlink dish locally. If this does not work, enter 192.168.100.1, this is the IP address of the Dish web-interface.
- You are now in the Starlink web-interface, here you are able to carry out actions such as check the Starlink dish's connection status (Seen at the top of the screen, check the dish's visibility map (Via the "Visibility" button), Stow, or Reboot the Starlink dish (Via the "Settings" button).
